I have been a clinical supervisor for provisional psychologists and marriage and family therapists (AAMFT) for over 20 years. Psychologist and marriage and family therapists are required to work with a supervisor for up to 1600 hours before they can be licensed. This is an important time in the development of an effective therapist. They have an opportunity to fine tune skills they have learned and grow in their understanding of what therapy is about. My supervision style changes as the supervisee’s needs change and develop.
I take a holistic approach in supervision, with more of an emphasis on assisting the clinician in developing the unique personal talents and strengths that they bring to their work.
The focus of supervision is the clinician and so I focus on what they identify as an area of growth.
Provisional psychologists and marriage therapists are invited to engage in ongoing personal reflection and self-awareness as they continue to relate to and journey with their clients. Attention is also given to assisting the clinician in further developing and fine-tuning the skills and talents. Clinicians are encouraged to challenge themselves and address areas that need development. Please feel free to contact me if you think my approach will be useful in your development as an effective therapist.
